Mr Balaji Thiagarajan is a Direct Recruit officer of 1989 batch. He has done post-graduation in Agricultural Sciences majoring in Agricultural Statistics and is a Fellow member of Insurance Institute of India.

Mr Balaji worked in United India Insurance Company for eleven years before his services were transferred to GIC Re in year 2000. A major part of his tenure with United India was in Rural Insurance in the company’s Head Office at Chennai, where he was involved in product design for rural insurance policies. He has also worked in Divisional Offices of the company in various departments including Motor Third Party claims and Fire/Marine/Miscellaneous claims.

Mr Balaji has been with GIC Re for the last 21 years, starting with GIC Crop Insurance Cell, where he was associated with implementation of Government-sponsored National Agricultural Insurance Scheme. Thereafter, he has been associated with Reinsurance in GIC Re for the last 16 years, working in various roles including Property Reinsurance underwriting and claims, Engineering, Large Risks, Reinsurance Pools, Agricultural Reinsurance, Life Reinsurance and Retakaful. Mr Balaji was posted to GIC Re’s London branch for 4 years from 2013 to 2017, where he handled Treaty Underwriting and served as Director of GIC Re Corporate Member Limited in Lloyd’s of London. He is presently the CEO in GIC Re Dubai Branch.

Mr Balaji is passionate about teaching/training and has been a guest faculty at premier Institutes. He has been a speaker in many seminars.
