GIC Re soutient l'industrie maritime indienne
Les sanctions imposées à l'Iran ont affecté le transport du pétrole de l’Iran en Inde en privant les navires indiens de la couverture de réassurance pour H & M et aussi pour des clubs P & I....
Several rounds of discussions followed with INSA (Indian National Ship Owners Association) and the four public sector general insurance companies where many issues were brain stormed and deliberated to the minutest detail. It was a great learning experience for GIC Re and the companies who were being initiated into the P&I arena, the cover being totally new to us. It must be appreciated here that traditionally P&I only covers what H&M does not and is totally outside the scope of hull insurance. United India Insurance designated to file the P&I product with IRDA has successfully secured approval and has put in place all arrangements for effective implementation of the P&I cover. GIC Re took initiative for the H&M and War cover and all efforts have borne fruit, with offices across the country in readiness to incept covers at short notice. Indian maritime insurance industry has come a long way in supporting the Indian Shipping Industry since the issue of the first hull policy to the Scindia Fleet way back in the 1950’s. After de-tariffing, the marine insurance sector did face pricing challenges, which is slowly being stabilized. It is only recently that the IRS (Indian Register of Shipping) entered the IACS class. With this new initiative of P&I support, the time may not be far off when we may see an Indian P&I Club in place in the near future!

The theme for the GAIF 2012 was "Insurance and the Arab World Reform". The conference assessed the impact of the unstable political circumstances on the industry to chart the best insurance path for the insurance sector.
GIC Re as a major player in the MENA region was represented at the conference by Mr. Ashok K Roy, GM, Shri P.K. Bhagat, DGM, Mrs. Alice G. Vaidyan and Dubai Resident Manager, Mr. D.R. Arya. It was a good opportunity for GIC Re to inspect the conditions in the Arab markets which faced political upheavals, to discuss how they dealt with political violence insurance in the backdrop of imposition of restrictions by reinsurers in covering political violence risks and sanctions against Syria. At GIC Re, we are aware of the tremendous opportunity for insurers in MENA as they remain largely uninsured with penetration rates on the rise with improving awareness. We had very meaningful discussions with all major insurers/reinsurers in the market; most of whom were being serviced by our Dubai office. It was heartening to note that as the leading reinsurer in the MENA region, our Dubai Office has carved out a place for GIC Re in the insurance map of the middle-east and North Africa region.
SCR Morocco played the perfect host taking care of over 2200 attendees, organizing partner programmes as well, all planned to the minutest details.
